Traditionally, coining dies are used to produce keys, medals, badges, coins and tokens. So basically any component which requires a sunken background with prominent raised characters. The coining process requires high tonnages to literally force the metal to flow into the engraved apertures of the die. Both sides of the component can be formed simultaneously or only one side if required.
